February 28 Birthdays - Garrett, Jackie, and Lilly

Happy 5th Birthday to my grand-nephew Garrett. This is his serious, contemplative look.

This is his playful look with his Uncle Kevin as Garrett models Nancy's Russian hat

Happy Birthday to my friend Jackie - she posed in Bosco Plaza outside the K-State Student Union. Jackie has been very, very good to Nancy and me. In fact, whenever we need assistance with house stuff we call Jackie!!

Happy Birthday to my friend Lilly. She is a sweet young girl with a heart of gold.

Happy Birthday to Kelly Thielen

We celebrated Garrett and Kelly's birthdays on Saturday night. Kelly's birthday is actually on Feb 24 and Garrett's is on the 28th. Garrett loved the idea of having a tractor on his cake so much that he decided Kelly's birthday cookie needed a tractor as well. After the photo was taken, Garrett used the tractor to pack his 'cake' silo.

Sam loves his mom, Kelly.

Happy Birthday to my sister Debbie Brenneman

Debbie is an absolutely wonderful sister and it is her birthday. So that means it is my chance to share with the world just how amazing Debbie really is. First of all, please know that I am not just writing this to get on Debbie’s quilt list. For all of you who have been on the list and have received a quilt from Debbie, you know what a good thing it is to be on ‘the list.’ I have had the good fortune of being on the list a few times – you should come to my house to see the works of art that Debbie has given to Nancy and me. In fact, my office is also loaded with art from Debbie. Now, I do refer to the quilts as works of art because that is what they are. Some are used as blankets, but lots of her quilts are displayed as art. AND, she puts lots of love and attention in selecting the appropriate quilt design and colors to make sure they ‘fit’ the purpose of the quilt and the personality of the receiver. When you get a quilt from Debbie, you know it is a gift of LOVE.

There are two events that automatically put you at the top of ‘the list’ - having a baby and getting married. If you don’t fit one of those two categories, you just hope you make Debbie’s list for other reasons!! I wonder if cancer will get someone on the list?

Ok, back to why Debbie is a wonderful sister and person. She always knows just how to make my day. I am guessing there are others who would say the same thing. Debbie knows just what you need and when you need it. Yes, she is generous, but it isn’t about buying things. It is about Debbie caring about others and doing things to make their lives better. There are no words to convey how much emotional, mental, and physical support she has provided to me, to Nancy, and to others during my journey with cancer. And I know it will not stop anytime soon because Debbie has given me that kind of support and love all of my life.

So today, Wednesday, February 20, my special ‘shout out’ goes to my sister Debbie. Happy Birthday to a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful sister!!

Birthday girl Debbie and her daughter Jody. Aren't they beautiful?

The three Siefers sisters - can you guess which one is the youngest?

This photo was taken as Deb explained the combination of gravity and aging on her body. Now you know why we had such big smiles on our faces.

Birthdays and Shotputgate

Get ready for a series of birthday photos in the next couple of weeks. This blog will be smoking with birthday photos and wishes. Happy Birthday Sharon!! She is celebrating her 28th birthday on Tuesday.

As you can see from these photos, Hallie thoroughly enjoyed her first birthday cake.

This is when Hallie reminds me of her Daddy - Matt.

Anna just loves her pink cowboy boots and her 'top of the head' pig tails.

I asked Sam if he was involved in 'shotputgate' and he just laughed at me. Strangely, it is the same response I get from his parents (Joey and Kelly) when I ask them about shotputgate.

Pink boots and a 12 pound shot put

Anna was so cute when she came to our house on Saturday dressed in her pink cowboy boots. She also has her hair in pig tails that stood straight up on her head. They don't show up clearly in this photo, but you can see them a little.

Yes, this is a 12 pound shot put. When I pulled the sheets back to get in bed on Saturday night, I found this ball of steel in my bed. Who would have done such a thing? Well, we had several visitors on Saturday - Susan, Joey, Kelly, Garrett, Anna, Sam, and Mechelle. Now I feel comfortable ruling out Garrett because he could never keep a secret like that. I am also ruling out Anna and Sam because they can't carry 12 pounds - Sam only weighs 16 pounds. So, that leaves Susan, Joey, Kelly, and Mechelle as suspects. Susan and Mechelle just wouldn't do it - they are much too nice to place a deadly weapon in my bed. So, my money is on Joey and Kelly as the guilty perpetrators of this crime!! Oops, I just remembered Kevin and Sharon were at our house on Saturday morning. They could be the guilty ones. Kevin was just returning from a business trip, so I am not sure he could make it through airline security with something that looked like a cannon ball. And Sharon? Well, she depends on us for lodging each week, so I don't think she would do anything to make us less than happy. My bet is still on Joey and Kelly!

Thanks Di for scooping the drive!

I know it looks like Di is on the ski slope, but this photo was taken in our yard. She was nice enough to scoop the seven inches of snow off our driveway. That's friendship!! Ok, so there is more to the story. Sharon actually scooped 90% of the driveway at 7:00 am, but her car still became stuck in the mess. After Sharon's friends came over in the afternoon to get her car out, Di showed up to shovel what was left of the snow. Thanks ladies for your kindness.
