Memorial Day 2009

Nancy injured her ankle and leg when the swing on the front porch fell. Ok, ok, I must tell the truth - I was on the swing with Nancy when it fell. I did not get injured. You might remember the same thing happened last summer when Kevin and I were swinging. I think it is a sign from above that I must lose weight NOW. We will probably have the ankle x-rayed on Tuesday to make sure all is ok.

The ankle in question

Debbie, Joan, and Susan at my Dad's grave site in Dorrance. We placed flowers on family graves on Sunday evening.

Sam and Hallie in their decorated wagon. Sam grandpa John pulled the wagon in the parade.

Susan, Debbie, Sharon, Mick, Jo, and Matt.

The ceremony at the cemetery

Joey - in the middle - served in the firing squad for the first time this year. His dad Joe did this for many, many years before his death in 2006. My dad, Casey, also participated in Memorial Day ceremonies for several years.

Eventually the kids found an adult to hold them. Debbie with Anna, Matt with Hallie, Lori, Sharon, and Susan with Sam.

Sam and his mom Kelly

The final part of the festivities is the release of lots of red, white, and blue balloons. The kids then run after the ballooons as souvenirs.

Hallie hit Sam on the head with her balloons.

Debbie and Anna

After the ceremony at the cemetery, there is always the walk back to the American Legion on main street. Debbie, Jo, and Kelly

Hallie and her mom, Lori

Kevin with Sam and Anna - it looks like an interesting conversation

Kevin, are you teasing Sam?

Hallie and Anna in the swing that is no longer attached to the ceiling of the porch

Garrett

Garret and Mick in a heated game

More Garrett and Mick

Why is it that the game ended in a tussle between Mick and Garrett? Of course, Anna could not refuse so she joined the scuffle.

Ouch Nancy! Your ankle looks like it might be a little sore! :)
Happy Memorial Day to you all! Hope to see you soon!

I could hardly wait to see the Memorial Day photos. I look forward to them. Dorrance sounds like "the" place to be on Memorial Day for lots of reasons.

It was a wonderful Memorial Day in Dorrance! MK does a great job of documenting the festivities.
