Last day of harvest 2010

The Thielen 2010 harvest ended on Wednesday, June 30 at about 4:00 pm. We get a little crazy at the end of harvest because we are all tired. Harvey taught Garrett to turn up the bill on his cap.

And yet more of Garrett

More of Harvey and Garrett being silly

Garrett and Austin - Mick's grandson

Joey and son Sam

A harvest tradition is to have a family photo taken in front of the combine.

The next several photos are of Matt and his daughter Hallie. The two of them spent the last few hours of harvest together.

I love Anna's sense of fashion.

Kelly and her mom Jo

Another family photo in front of the combine.

Lori and daughter Brooklyn

Brooklyn loved it when Mick put his cap on her head.

Another harvest tradition is the harvest kiss.

Sweet

And more sweetness

And yet, more sweetness

Anna and Jo in the combine - of course, Anna was being silly.

We all returned to the farm for a little after harvest refreshment.

Big Day in the Harvest Field

Kevin, Sharon and Avery pose for their first harvest family photo.

Kevin kept Avery and Sam out of the sun by sitting in Brutus - Matt's pickup.

Even though Avery was taking her first trip in a wheat truck to the elevator, she still needed to eat when she wanted to eat.

Harvey, Joey and Sam waiting on things to happen.

The best combine driver west of the Mississippi - Kelly.

Anna came to the harvest field with the lunch crew.

Matt, Harvey and Jane at the tail gate party.

More of the tail gate party at Holland's field, aka lunch - Joey, Jane, Matt, Garrett, Nancy and Harvey.

I stopped by the house on my way back to the field after I had been at the elevator. Sam was entertaining his cousin Avery.

Sweet Avery was in a good mode after her trip to the harvest field.

Avery, are you sticking your tongue out at me?

We had a bit of a work stoppage as we prepared to move to another field. Matt and Joey found a bit of shade for their afternoon discussion.

It didn't take Harvey too long to join Joey and Matt in the shade while we waited on the crew to gather.
At supper, Susan had the pleasure of holding Brooklyn. Lori was summoned to join Matt and Joey as they returned to the farm to sort a pen of cattle. Even though it is harvest, the cattle work still continues.

Kelly and Brian (the school principal turned grain cart driver for a few days) enjoyed a spaghetti casserole for supper. The water in the background is Lake Wilson or actually is where the Saline River becomes the lake. It is not an optical illusion, the water is just a few feet from where they are sitting.

Of course, when you are that close to the water, Garrett and the rest of the kids found a way to stay entertained by it.

Sam had to go #2.

Kelly and I finished cutting the field while Joey, Matt and Lori sorted cattle. At about the same time, Kevin had a breakdown with the grain truck so Harvey and the rest of the crew left to assist him. At the end of the evening it was just Kelly in one combine and Garrett and I in the other one. We laughed that we were finished prior to the 10 pm. Kelly thought we should go to the bar since it was so early in the evening. Usually, we are still hard at it at 10.

The evening sunset was quite beautiful.

A tired little girl

Avery was tuckered out after a long day of harvest.

Combines - as if you didn't know.

More combines - as if you didn't know.

Jane and Nancy delivered lunch to us today.
