Cousin Eddie??

Cousin Eddie and Cousin Catherine have arrived!! Nancy's sister Jane and husband Harvey are visiting Thielenville for a few days during harvest. Harvey bought a 1982 Winnebago - a toy for him.

There are usually a 100 things going on at the farm, this week a neighbor is replacing the old wood porch with composite porch.

First day of harvest 2010

Can you tell this picture was taken at the end of the first day of harvest? Joey put the kids in the truck to corral them as things wound down. They look like prisoners begging for help.

I was actually on my way to the farm when I noticed the beautiful sunset, so I returned to the field to take a couple of photos. The combine was a long way from where I was standing, it was all the way across the field so I zoomed in as close as I could to get these images.

Even combine drivers need a break. Not only did Kelly cut wheat, she also trained Lori on driving the combine. For all of you out there take note, the best job in the harvest field is driving the combine because it is usually the one vehicle with a smooth ride and air conditioning.

This isn't a harvest photo, it was taken a day before we started cutting wheat. Of course, we had to check the corn, this time near Lake Wilson. As we returned to the car to head home, I took this photo of the lake.

We 'tried' to take a photo of Susan's grandkids on Sunday afternoon. It was hot and windy and the kids obviously wanted to do other things. Left to right: Hallie holding Avery, Anna holding Brooklyn, Garrett and Sam. It would have been an all inclusive photo of my nieces and nephews if Natalie and Emily would have been in the photo.

Hallie decided to call her cousin Anna to ask her to come to grandma's house so that all of grandma's grand daughters would be in the photo. Hallie's sister Brooklyn wanted to listen to the phone call.

Sam wished his daddy Joey a happy father's day. Sam gave him a bag of almond M&M's.

It was a bit of an initiation for Avery, she was held, squeezed, kissed and tugged all day.

My mom and my grand niece Brooklyn, note - thanks Lori for taking this photo. Hallie and I were running in the corn when this photo was taken.

Hallie is on my shoulders, yes, the corn is that tall farther in the field. We realized the corn near the road is much shorter than the corn in the middle of the field. I am standing tall in the photo and Hallie is on my shoulders.

When we returned to the farm (in this case the word farm means the house, shed and barn area), I saw Anna and just had to take a photo of her choice of clothes. I love the pink boots and one stripped sock. The dog in the photo is Shelby, she belongs to Matt and Lori.

Anna, cousin McKenzie and Garrett caught fireflies (or lightning bugs), that is why their hands are closed. According to McKenzie, they caught seven bugs.

Weather

I spent most of Thursday planting milo. I had the pleasure of watching this storm move through the area around 8:00 pm. I tried to get a photo with a lightning bolt, but I missed them - and the lightning missed me, too. It only rained for a minute or two, nothing that will slow down the fieldwork. Nancy and Susan are becoming quite the cattlewomen as they have been on the 'pulling cidr' team.

It was the color of the sky that motivated me to stop the tractor and take a few photos.
