Rolling HIlls Zoo

These photos are courtesy of Susan. I sent my camera with her to document the day at Rolling Hills Zoo near Salina. Don't you think she did a great job on the photography? Kelly, Lori and Donna took their children to the zoo for a morning of fun in the sun and the zoo.

Ankle update - it looks bad, but is getting better

Nancy is walking - slowly - on the ankle without crutches. Thank goodness it is only bruised and not broken. I couldn't imagine trying to pull the load for my work AND Nancy's work this summer. You will be delighted to know that Susan is giving Nancy paid sick leave even though Nancy has only earned one day of leave so far. Nancy has already taken three days. I guess that means Nancy will have to do double time later in the summer to make up for missed work because of the ankle injury. I love it that the black and blue bruise is actually purple. Nancy is a true K-Stater, she bleeds purple.

Good news and bad news

Good news - Nancy's ankle is not broken. Susan took her to Salina for an x-ray this morning and no fractures. Nancy is taking it easy today, but Susan said Nancy does not have any sick days built up yet. So, it will be back to work for Nancy on Wednesday. I want to give a 'shout out' to my sister Debbie for organizing the x-ray.

Bad news - I have the stomach flu and the general aching all over my body. It hit me Monday night. I had a fever, stomach upset, generous diarrhea, chills, and an overall yucky feeling. Is this too much information? Hopefully, this is the 24 hour variety flu.

Memorial Day 2009

Nancy injured her ankle and leg when the swing on the front porch fell. Ok, ok, I must tell the truth - I was on the swing with Nancy when it fell. I did not get injured. You might remember the same thing happened last summer when Kevin and I were swinging. I think it is a sign from above that I must lose weight NOW. We will probably have the ankle x-rayed on Tuesday to make sure all is ok.

The ceremony at the cemetery

Joey - in the middle - served in the firing squad for the first time this year. His dad Joe did this for many, many years before his death in 2006. My dad, Casey, also participated in Memorial Day ceremonies for several years.

Eventually the kids found an adult to hold them. Debbie with Anna, Matt with Hallie, Lori, Sharon, and Susan with Sam.

The final part of the festivities is the release of lots of red, white, and blue balloons. The kids then run after the ballooons as souvenirs.

More Garrett and Mick

Why is it that the game ended in a tussle between Mick and Garrett? Of course, Anna could not refuse so she joined the scuffle.
