Tornado in Manhattan Wednesday night

We are ok and our house is ok. A tornado hit Manhattan tonight and caused significant damage. We took shelter in our basement with guests Jane (Nancy's sister from Lincoln, Nebraska), Kevin and Sharon, and Jenny and Peggy. Jenny is Sharon's sister who is a student at K-State and Peggy is Jenny's roommate. They all live near campus and needed a basement. We stayed in the basement for a couple of hours while we listened to the radio and watched TV. Our electricity flickered a couple of times, but other than that, we just had heavy rain at our house. Everyone is staying the night because downed power lines and flooding on several streets.

As a side note, we spent an hour in the basement last week because of a tornado warning. We commented that we needed a battery powered radio then and we made the same comment tonight. I will put that on my list.

By the way, the party is still on for Nancy's retirement.
